Government Affairs reviews federal and state legislation to try and determine which proposed bills might have an impact on business and the Northwest Arkansas region. These bills will be listed below. Please take a moment to review the list and contact Government Affairs and your state or federal legislator to voice your opinion on any bill that might have an impact on your business.

TRACKED FEDERAL LEGISLATION

HR2887Surface and Air transportation Program Extension Act.  Extends funding for FAA and Dept of transportation (federal gas taxes).

HR2587 - Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act.  Stops the NLRB from preventing relocation of facilities within the US.

HR2701 - Main Street Fairness Act. Promote Simplification and Fairness in Administration and Collection of Sales Taxes.

S1446 - State transportation Flexibility Act. A bill to free states to spend gas taxes on their own priorities.

S1425 - Fair Representation in Elections Act. Amend NLRB to ensure fairness in Elections.

S1449 - Authorize Appropriations for Highway Safety Funds.  This bill funds highway safety programs in FY2012 

HR 2547 /S1372 - No Child Left Inside Act. Encourages states and communities to support outdoor activities for children.

S1358Parental Bereavement Act of 2011. Amend Family Medical Leave Act to Provide leave for death of a son or daughter.

S1360Shareholder Protection Act of 2011. Require shareholder authorization before a public company may make certain political contributions.

HR2442 – Rural County Mandate Relief Act. Eliminate Federal Mandates on Reflectivity of Highway Signs

S1283Family and Medical Leave Inclusion Act.

S1297 - Bill to preserve state and institutional authority relating to definition of credit hour.

S1292 – Employment Protection Act. Require EPA to consider economic impact for all new regulations.

S1300Lincoln Legacy Infrastructure Act. Encourage public-private partnerships in transportation projects.

HR2206 – Auto Enroll Repeal Act. Repeal the requirement that new employees of certain employers be automatically enrolled in health benefit plan.

HR2125 – Electronic Paycard Protection Act. Require additional disclosures for electronic pay stubs. 

TRACKED STATE LEGISLATION

None at this time. The Arkansas General Assembly meets again for a fiscal session in February 2012 and for its next regular session in January 2013.
